Day 08 – A moment

Being in the Mat-Su Valley part of Alaska with Amber, walking along the rocks of a stream connected to a glacier and collecting silt from a large glacier you can see from her house:-)

Day 09 – Your beliefs

Wow, this is a loaded question... I am a panentheist -- I believe that God is in everything and yet beyond everything that we are capable of knowing. I believe all the gods known exist as some type of spirit, and I believe there are spirits in all living, and some non-living, matter. I think I'm some kind of eclectic Christo-Pagan, starting to realize my Celtic roots. I feel connections to the goddesses Brigid (my namesake) and Persephone. I believe in reincarnation and other dimensions. I believe in heavens and a purgatory of some sort, where we all eventually realize the pain we cause others and feel that pain ourselves and feel remorse, but do not believe in any kind of hell. I follow the teachings of Jesus, but do not believe in the trinity or the idea that he is literally God anymore than any of us are (though I believe he was a prophet). I believe in ghosts and spirits of all kinds. I believe there is no death of the soul and eternity is true existence -- time is an illusion.

I believe in treating others how they wish to be treated, as long as that doesn't infringe on the rights of others -- including your own. Politically I'm very liberal, though I used to be pro-life. This was because of my belief that even bacteria and stones possess souls and it seemed a risk to kill something that might already be living. Yes, I felt bad for sperm that died. Now I see abortion as sometimes necessary and a right, but one that should be treated seriously and not forced on anyone. No one should be guilted into it or guilted for choosing it.

I'm in the process of trying to become a "mostly vegetarian" (meaning vegetarian except for maybe 4 times a year) and buy cruelty-free products. I believe all living things are of equal importance and want to do as little damage and as much good as possible.

Well I don't qualify for LASIK still, and probably never will:-( My cornea is too messed up. If my vision were a lot better and they only needed to alter my eye a little they might be able to, but that's not the case. There is another procedure I might qualify for, but it's a lot more expensive. I'm tempted to go in for an appointment if they also do free consultations at this other place, just to see if they also would reject me. I can't justify spending more than I already thought LASIK would cost for me. I'd been planning it since I was 16. But they do make lots of progress scientifically all the time, so maybe someday something will come along (or be affordable). It does make me sad, but I expected this to happen. I will stick to glasses and contacts, though neither of those is ideal for me. I also have this dislike of wearing glasses because it reminds me of the time period I got made fun of for my appearance/ugliness:-(

I am going to try and get a lot of housecleaning done today. We also go grocery shopping so I have to get rid of old food. I need more space in my kitchen...

I will do more scrapbooking today, in preparation for Alaska photographs. I'll look for some other memorabilia I can use. Also, I got this really wonderful fairy tale-themed scrapbooking paper!! I forgot to mention that yesterday. I'm using some of that. It's really great:D

This was my first knitting project, and it was hard. I started out making tight stitches, then I was told I should make them looser for our felting project. I would often not notice I hadn't finished my row of stitches and switch prematurely to perling/knitting in the opposite direction. And one of the yarns [livejournal.com profile] sand_piper had that I used didn't seem to felt well, so it might not have been the type recommended for felting projects. I did a horrible job sewing on the ears (that was the hardest part for me). Amber tried to comfort me, telling me that horse ears move independently of each other, anyway. The backside (and underside) I'm more satisfied with. I was running out of time on this project and literally finished it on the car ride to the airport. The tail and mane were completely experimental with only a few minutes of time left, so I think for that they turned out surprisingly well. I kind of wanted to try and make it a unicorn, but definitely no time to mess around with that (no pattern for it, either, so it would have been complete experimentation).

At the airport Amber took pictures of my horse with her herd, but it was with her camera phone and I don't know how they turned out.:-( Her pictures of her horses might be in a public post, though ([livejournal.com profile] sand_piper).

I was also hoping I was making enough knitting to make two horses, but no such luck!>_< I have too low a frustration tolerance to try this project again on my own at this point, being such a beginner, so I don't anticipate making more any time soon. (Unfortunately, I am the type of boring and unadventurous person who doesn't like to do things I'm "untalented" at; I get way too frustrated and irritated).

This will probably be my last major series of pictures I will show here from my stay in Alaska.

These are some pictures I took; there are a bunch more I will be posting. I have a "real" post that I will be making tomorrow. I don't want to talk about it here beforehand because I'm worried the plans will fall through. I am not 100% certain I don't have some of the Butte pictures mixed up with Hatcher Pass. Maybe sometime soon I will recheck.

I really don't feel like sleeping, so I'm working on my Alaska photographs. Here are some neat ones taken of me by [livejournal.com profile] sand_piper when we went hiking at the Butte. I have landscape photographs of my own from there I will upload later and separately. There's a glacier in the center of the last photograph.

The dog with me is [livejournal.com profile] sand_piper's. Sometimes he seemed to confuse me with [livejournal.com profile] sand_piper. It was weird. He seemed to like me pretty well, though!
