Princess Tutu and Love

I really identify with the main character of Princess Tutu. (Also known as "the duck.") The series is about Princess Tutu finding the missing shards of the Prince's heart and returning them to him. She doesn't fight the people who hold shards of his heart within them -- she dances with them and they talk about their feelings. Princess Tutu rather loves the prince, but she can never confess her love or she will turn into a speck of light. She is doomed for her love to forever be unrequited, and it is difficult for her, but at the same time she is doing all this work just to see the Prince truly happy and to have a wide range of emotions, as he used to have. I have read about the rest of the series (I only watched the first disc so far -- hopefully more today). I think this is good to remind myself that if I really love someone, I will want their happiness more than I will want to possess them in some way. I will make sacrifices and face pain for the benefit of others. And sometimes when you love someone, you won't be loved back, and that's okay. The fact that you have the ability to love and put it to use is what's important.
