unico_love: (red manga saturn)
My mother has asked what I want for Christmas, but I'm not sure what to ask for, other than the usual things I get. If anyone has any suggestions, please comment:-) Even if they are things I might not be able to buy or they might be too expensive, maybe it will give me some inspiration. My birthday comes up in January, too, so I might need to think of something to ask for then, too)

Here are just a few things that I like (my interests list on my profile has more, too, of course):
Pretty and vivid music -- one genre being Folk-rock music and Singer/Songwriter music (Simon and Garfunkel, Carol King, Cat Stevens, etc.)
Magical creatures (especially unicorns and fairies, but almost anything magical, fantasy-like, or otherworldly interests me)
Anime and anime-related products (Hello Kitty and Sailor Saturn from Sailor Moon, as just two examples)
Movies (hah, broad category, but I could always rent through netflix, at least...)
Art supplies
JW Waterhouse and Cezanne art, Art Nouveau, Impressionism, William Blake
Writing
Books (all kinds)
Pretty posters/prints
I need a mouse pad with a unicorn on it!!! Especially something that looks like an older illustration or something very ethereal-looking)
Old cartoons from my childhood (1980's-early1990's)
Anything pertaining to fairy tales, mythology, religion, or folklore
Jungian psychology, gestalt psychology, archetypes, Joseph Campbelll...
Disney movies (possibly dvd's, if I can find them inexpensively... I had difficulty looking them up online earlier)
Mary Jane-type shoes
Winter boots that are some shade of brown
Pastel or pretty clothing (I like white, pink, and red clothing a lot, but I have quite a variety of color)
Anything celestial, magical, pretty, unusual, spellbinding, entrancing, etc.
Make up (I often wear make up but I don't search into it a lot to find interesting things)
Anything cute:-)

So any neat ideas, whether they relate to this list or not, are welcome and appreciated!:-) If you have your own favorite things, perhaps, and would like to share them.

That is quite a list you have going. Looks like almost all the stuff is stuff you want but don't need. I usually ask for stuff I need like pots & pans, towels, computer parts. Then again maybe you have everything you need already.

I don't have much advanced technology, so I don't usually ask for things computer-related or anything like that. Actually I probably need to replace my dvd player, but I am trying to make it last as long as possible. As long as I have some necessities, I usually feel okay about it. I also live next door to my mother and she has a lot, so I just borrow hers if I need it:)

Actually I do think I need one more pot to use for the stove, so I am going to ask for one, thanks:) I don't cook anything complicated and rarely need more than I have, so I don't usually remember these things and if I need something of that type.

My advice is to get a few things you want, so that you can pamper yourself, but remember to get yourself things you need.

The Christmas gifts I give my boyfriend usually are like a robe, socks, and one thing he's wanted over the years, or the year. That way, it's not completely stuff he didn't want. :)

I'm having trouble figuring out anything other than giving my mother my amazon wishlist:-/ I'm not sure that I "need" very much right now other than boots (especially for when I go to Alaska) because I ruined my last boots in Alaska.

Some things, like a new dvd player because my old one is dying, seems more practical, but I wouldn't call it a necessity, either... And it's not completely dead yet. I don't have much furniture, my home is small and I live by myself, so I don't need very many practical things to get by in daily life. Heh, I would be better off asking my mother if I needed something:P

I have a hard time with those questions. I do not think the word need should be in there. But things that would be nice made it easier for me to do my own amazon wish list and that is how I described it to PJ. Need is such a concrete concept. I have everything that I need. If I really needed it I would not wait until Christmas to get it. Take care!

My parents really harped on me about separating needs from wants. I only consider needs to be food, water, basic shelter. Anything else, even if it's practical, I usually can't think of as a "need."

Oh yeah, and emergency medical attention/medication.

I know what you are saying. I have been asked if I need a new jacket. I look at the one I have on and I have a jacket so why would I need a new one. It works. It keeps me warm.
Needing and wanting things are so confusing to others. They think they need things that they want. They use the words incorrectly. I totally agree with you on the concept of needing something.

I see you are a member of CASPAN: Chicago Asperger's Adult Network. I hope sometime to go to the Naperville Group. I do not know how yet but the one in Bridgeview was real nice.

Is there a Naperville group?? I thought that was for teenager's. That's far closer to me. I just went to the Evanston one, but it was rather annoying (the presenter, some of the arguments, etc.) If there's one in Naperville for adults I might try that one! (I have to look up Bridgeview)

I have heard about the teen group in Naperville but I have also heard of an adult group. I think in the Aspie group in the Aspergers Group here on Live Journal, (someone offered to drive me - I do not remember clearly) and in talking to people at the meetings. Jamie Specht is the organizer. She is really nice!
