I really relate and identify with LeGuin's characterization of time in this book. The physicist Shevek believes in simultaneity of time instead of "only" sequence in time, and works on theories (not either/or, but both). Most people he interacts with can't imagine simultaneity of time being "real."

There are a lot of other quotes I would like to add, but I will leave it at that:-) The concept of time fascinates me because, even though I pay careful attention to patterns, including cause and effect or possible forms of cause and effect, I feel like everything exists as part of eternity, that everything is really occurring at once. Sometimes that feeling tends to scatter me in impractical ways.
