To distract myself I'm going to talk about my wedding ideas here.
We hope to hold the ceremony and reception at the Morton Arboretum. There is a big room for special events and there is a wall of ceiling to floor windows overlooking a big pond and trees. The tables are round with white linens and the chairs are wooden. I want to go with kind of a nature-theme. Hopefully the ceremony will be held outside, but if it can't be I'm sure they have a place inside that would do for the ceremony (at the very least the large events room seems like it might be convertible for the ceremony before taking the tables out for the reception). If flower petals are allowed I want pink or red flower petals demarcating the walkway for the ceremony. I also want the same petals strewn across the tables in lieu of centerpieces (I don't want to buy big centerpieces that will go to waste after the wedding).
During the ceremony we will have a best man (holding the rings) and at least one bridesmaid (April and maybe Amber). I want April and Amber's dresses to be a light green celery-ish shade. I want their bouquets to be baby's breath tied in a ribbon. I want my bouquet to be all white flowers and maybe some green plants. I've gotten Michael to agree to some kind of off-white or "sand"-colored suit, probably with a tie (same with the best man). They'd probably wear different colored ties (maybe the best man in light green and Michael in white). I will of course wear the dress I already posted, simply a better fitting one:-) I want my hair half up and half down with loose curls and a few white flower decorations in my hair. I will do my own make up. I want slightly dangly earrings. I might just wear white shoes I already have.
I would like to have a friend do the officiating/leading the ceremony, since it will probably officially be a commitment ceremony without the legalities since I could lose my SSDI. We would write our own vows and work in some kind of pretty reading. Our vows would probably include some simple, more traditional things in it too. We will buy fairly inexpensive gold rings (mine, at least, will be white gold with some kind of garnet or light pink stone). During the recessional (if it's allowed) I want the people sitting (especially on the ends) to blow bubbles on us. I think that would make great pictures. I intend to hire either a professional photographer (maybe only for 4 hours, since our wedding and reception won't be long) or a student photographer who has a good portfolio.
Then at the reception we will have food (probably simple, typical American food catered by a restaurant since they are usually cheaper than caterers) and a sheet cake (probably half chocolate and half yellow) decorated with real or silk flowers. This is provided that the arboretum doesn't make you use any specific venues and you can choose. Michael and I like simple food and we want to keep it cheap. We will hopefully have around 50 guests (or even a little less).
Our goal is to have enough money left after the wedding to afford a honeymoon in Disney World. I miss Disney World so much!
