Turning points
Thinking over the entire narrative of your life, what are the one or two biggest turning points that sent your story onto a different path?
The biggest turning point was my father's death because he completely controlled my life until that point and then I was free. But I also had lots of good childhood memories and everything changed, so it was sad in some ways. I was re-introduced to the outside world.
Your life story
If you were going to tell the story of your life, which of these three themes would be closest to the center of the story: the events you experienced and witnessed; the people you knew; or the goals you pursued and achieved?
The events I experienced would be the center of the story because there have been a number of major life-changing events in my life that completely altered how things went for me. Those these events usually did involve people.
Eureka!
Did you ever receive a life-changing insight while in an altered state of consciousness?
Conversely, did you ever come to a profound realization while in an altered state, only to find that your new idea seemed nonsensical in your ordinary state of consciousness?
Usually my insights are related to how connected everything in the universe is or how everybody needs love, we are love at our core, etc. The only time my insight seemed at all nonsensical was the idea I should so empathize with another person that when they mistreat me I should stay loyal to them instead of cutting them off for my own good.
Under the influence
For thousands of years, people have drunk alcohol and used other substances and techniques to temporarily alter their state of consciousness. But this isn't a universal habit. For example, some people enjoy drinking regularly; others find that it just gives them a headache. Some people steer clear for health or religious reasons, and for some people in some places drinking is against the law.
If you drink, what is the main thing you enjoy about it or the main reason you drink? If you don't, what is your main reason for avoiding it?
I don't drink because I'm related to a lot of alcoholics, I'm emetophobic, I have a weak stomach, I don't like most alcohol, and I shouldn't drink being on the psychiatric medications I'm on.
Tell us a story: the long and winding road
Think of all the places you've traveled and all the trips you've taken. Which trip took you the farthest from the place where you were born?
The furthest I've been away from home (the Chicago area, Illinois) is Alaska to visit Amber. I love Alaska -- it's absolutely beautiful.
Clothing
How much clothing do you have? Too much? Not enough? Just the right amount? When and why do you buy new clothing?
I have a lot of clothing. Way too much for my closet and dresser. I rarely throw out old clothes, though recently I've been getting rid of very old clothes and clothes that are too small. I buy new clothing when the clothing I do have gets ratty or no longer fits. I also buy clothes if I just like them and really want them. Sometimes I spend a lot of time thinking of clothes, but I like aesthetics very much, and that includes clothing.
