I think this differs for every individual and there are different "areas" one might be more of an adult in than in other areas. Some "adults" are incredibly immature and act like small children. Some teenagers are very self-sufficient and sensible. I don't think I was as immature or selfish as some people I know/some teenagers I knew, but in other ways I was very delayed and it would have been silly to call me an adult. This also all depends on what qualities you consider "necessary" for adulthood. A wide range of different qualities or skills could count, but we all have areas of difficulty so even if we are adults and it's generally agreed we should be considered "adults" we might not measure up in all areas.
