So far Bunny seems adjusting well in some ways and not others. But that's at least partly Joey's fault. I'm keeping her alone in the backroom (which is a pretty big room) and she's rubbing her face against everything and purring. She hides a lot, but usually she'll come out and rub against me when I hold out my hand toward her. Mrs. Bates seems indifferent to Bunny's arrival, which I'd expect. If my only other cat was Mrs. Bates I'd probably only isolate Bunny for a day or maybe 2 (instead of a week, as recommended) because Mrs. Bates simply doesn't care about other animals. She's also declawed (we found her that way) and when other cats chase and jump her she just gets really vocal in her complaining. Even when I had the cat Newton who would jump her in the litter box, she would still use the litterbox. Bunny is being good about using the litterbox, eating, etc. The shelter recommended 1 litter box for each cat, which my family hasn't really done before (we've just always used two litterboxes, but Bunny seems to have "claimed" her litterbox as her own, so I will probably fit in three litterboxes if I can). There's a baby-gate separating the rest of the house from the back room, but there's also a door that doesn't close *all the way*, but it gets tight enough for the cats to be unable to open it. It hasn't been an issue before because we keep the litterboxes back there so obviously we leave the door open.

When we had the door open none of the cats tried to jump the gate (as my mother feared), but it wasn't put in well at first, and Bunny got out through the bottom and chased Joey (they hissed at each other first). There was no biting or clawing involved and Michael calmed Bunny down. Joey seemed scared of the back room, though, after that. He's about three times Bunny's size! I'm hoping with more time for them both to adjust they will be able to accept each other. Joey hated my mother's dog at first and clawed him near the eye even, but now he just ignores the dog. I just really hope Bunny adjusts... I want to make sure she's going to be able to get along semi-okay with Joey before making a vet appointment. I hate the idea of taking her back to the shelter (it's not "no-kill" though the area Bunny was in was considered "no-kill", but the fact that the shelter isn't "no-kill" makes me not want to return her there if there were a major problem, though I signed saying I'd bring her back if I had to give her up. At least she'd probably be adopted quickly). She looks kind of like a sand cat, though all her fur comes off looking white. I'm wearing black today and I have white all over me from just visiting her.
