Church Interior Painting, Sanctuary

I recently did a painting of a church interior, as a request. The painting is called Sanctuary and there are two small children entering the church. They are supposed to look small and lost, the church is supposed to look overwhelming and luminous. Some churches are really huge, and I wanted this church to seem kind of big, but a friend thought the proportions might be off, where the children are too small compared to the church. Should I make the children large, or leave it as is? Or change something else?
please keep in mind I am a terrible photographer; the photograph of my painting is slightly tilted, the lines on my painting are not that crooked. I will take a better picture when I am more finished with the painting.

I agree with Emily. I think if you made the kids any bigger, they'd look as big as the adult standing further into the church.

If I look at the children in reference to the small chair/bench(?) directly in their line of sight, they look like they'd be about the size of three or four-year-olds (on average). Is that what you had in mind?

I did want one of them to at least be about that age, so that sounds okay to me:) It's a small chair. It would be easier to change the size of the chair, if it's too big in comparison!

I like it because most churches are very dark and your idea to make it luminous worked and they are my favorite colors for an interior anyway, brownish to both reddish and yellowish. I would not change the size of the chair, because it would not match to size of the pilars closeby anymore.

Keeping in mind that this is the opinion of someone who just last night prayed to Satan for aid and succor, I find that the church is way too warm looking, safe, and inviting to really communicate the horror the children must be feeling to see that they are in a cult-structure dedicated to the worship of a mostly-naked man who has been tortured to death.

And tortured to death because the children are by definition "bad people."

There is a lot of Satanic art that makes fun of Christian iconphraphy and makes the Gothic cathedrals look like houses of weakness, lies, and folly. But to portray the innocence of young children swallowed up by what really is a strong, powerful and utterly anti-human religion devoted to death and suffering is something I have yet to see and have often yearned for.

I had the impression from your discription that this was what you were trying to portray. Your work stands very much on it's own merrit, but with less irony than I had expected.

I think I was being understated when I said your painting stood on its own merit and was not ironic.

When I was in my early 20's, there was an occult store downtown that I loved to visit. It was dark and always smelled of warm incense. It was an autism-friendly environment, very peaceful, and it had a good-sized collection of Left Hand Path books, magazines, and items. I felt safe and invited. I felt that here was a sanctuary.

I feel that same sense of sanctuary when I look at your painting. You communicated to me a feeling I've searched for but not found in so long.

I'd love to own a print of this painting. I don't say that lightly.

Ah, well I'm glad you like the painting at least!:) I actually have paper to try and learn how to make prints soon. I'm sure I will post here when I've got it figured out.

I like the architecture of churches, and even though they bother you, the angle I used doesn't really have any religious iconography, if that makes you feel better:)
