Michael's Crazy Niece

Michael's out of control niece poured water over my head to try and make me get up out of bed! I cried and ran to his room. She had spent hours bothering me and trying to pull me out of bed to play with her. Sometimes she can be nice or sweet in her own weird way and I feel bad for getting mad at her. I hope she leaves her soon so I can go downstairs. I can't believe she's going to be here every day before and after school. She didn't go to school today because she lost her glasses. She is way too stressful for me to handle.

I would have slammed her against something, I'm serious. Everyone knows to keep kids far FAR away from me, I hate them.

I love kids, but that is just atrocious behavior! If you don't take some sort of authority with her and keep letting her see you in pain, she'll probably keep doing things like that. You have to tell her what she's doing is wrong and to leave you alone. Remember, she's just a little kid and you're an adult: don't let her hurt you.

She got in trouble and knows what she did was wrong now. I can't deal with children or discipline them; I just run away. I plan on never having children or working with them.

I bet she thought you were playing. That is how most people play with kids. You would have had to more firm with her if you wanted her to take you more seriously. She is a bit out of control but she seemed quite bored too. Kids do those things when they are bored and out of control.

I am sorry to hear that this is creating stress.

Can you talk to her and make a deal? I mean at that age she knows lots. You can say if you are quiet and do not come into the room without knocking (quietly) first. Then you can do something with her that she might like to do. She probably likes to watch movies or color. I think there is quite a lot of things you two can do together. But always make it seem like she has to earn this privilege.

I used to teach art to children of this age. I also started college to teach early childhood education. Being a parent gave me lots of experience with kids.

Usually she won't be around too long (before and after school), she just lost her glasses today so she was around for awhile. And it seems they are moving back to Alabama anyways! I'm glad!

Most 8 year olds know when someone isn't moving and tells them to go away that the person isn't "playing." She does stuff like this to people all the time.

The information is good to have in case you have to deal with her again and do not want this sort-of thing to happen. It is also good to know just in case you have to deal with another child.

I love well behaved children. I took lots of time and energy to ensure that a child would be well behaved around me. it is also good to know what is reasonable to expect of a child of a certain age.

That sucks! Respect of others has to be taught. Most of this is done by example.
I actually feel sorry for children who are dealing with this sort of thing.

It is hard to try to understands when she is acting so awful. I so know that feeling. I choose to not be around children that are having such a rough time.

That would have made me cry too :( My brothers used to sneak into the bathroom while I was showering and pour cold water on my head... I still have huge paranoia when I shower. If my husband comes into the bathroom too quietly while I'm showering and turns on a faucet or does anything that will suddenly alert me to a presence I scream.

That's a really horrible sort of thing for someone to do, what this girl did to you. For most people, this would be a huge shock to the nervous system, I would think. I hope she understands that it wasn't a nice thing to do and doesn't do it again.
